Library 2.0 - Some thoughts

I enjoyed learning all about some of the new technology. Some of it I will make use of - others probably not. I would like to establish a blog for Special Delivery with the help of my staff. Some of what we have learned will be included in it - podcasts, presentations, etc. I look forward to leaning more. You can teach an old librarian new tricks.

Digital Audio Books

I established a Net Library Account. I also downloaded the Overdrive Player on my home computer, and downloaded and checked out an audio book. I am listening to it right now. When I get my MP3 player, I will transfer it to that device. I can't wait.

Vintage Radio Podcasts

I went searching for podcasts and turned up one that has old time radio broadcasts. I listened to an Eddie Cantor show from 1949 featuring Dinah Shore. I added it to my bloglines. I had difficulty with this at work. I think it was because our Internet Explorer isn't up to date. The searching was interesting. If I couldn't think of a topic, I just scrolled down the subject list.

I'm Tubing!

I've been exploring some YouTube videos. I watched Franco Harris' immaculate reception in 1982 and some past performances of Dancing with the Stars alumni like Emmett Smith, Joey Fatone, and Mario Lopez. It was great seeing them again and comparing them to today's dancers. I could definitely see some uses for librarys. We could film some storytimes and post on our library's website. We could do some training videos of some of our databases and post for patrons especially students. I would like to see our TV ads incorporated onto our website.

Trying Picasa

I have downloaded Picasa into my home computer and I just love it. It is very easy to use and I am in the process of organizing and backing up all the photos I have been taking for the past three years.
